This project utilizes crochet stitches working in the round and the majority of the stitches are in half double crochet knit stitch also known as half double crochet through the third loop. Other stitches are single crochet and double crochet shell stitch for the edging.
Materials, approximately 50g of Aran weight Irish wool, approximately 50g of worsted weight Peruvian llama yarn, a 7 mm, 6mm, and 5mm crochet hook.
Foundation Row:
Chain 70
First row. Make a circle by doing a slip stitch in the first chain to join. Chain two. This counts as first half double crochet.
Row two: half double crochet in each chain until you reach your starting point. Join with a slip stitch then chain two. This counts as your first half double crochet stitch for the next row.
Row three: join alternating yarn and chain to. Half double crochet through the third loop all the way around. Join with a slip stitch then chain two and this counts as your first half double crochet stitch for the next row. Chain two.
Row four: half double crochet through the third loop all the way around again with the same alternating yarn.
Rows 5-6: alternate yarn
Rows 7-8: alternate yarn
Rows 9-10: alternate yarn
Rows 11-12: alternate yarn
Rows 13-14: alternate yarn
Row 15: Using same yarn, do one row of HDC knit stitch
Edging. Both sides. Row 1: switch to a 6 mm hook and with the alternating yarn do a single row of single crochet. Repeat on other side.
Now using the 5 mm hook, at the joining point use a slip stitch to join the alternating yarn and chain two. Now do two double crochets in the same place. This counts as half of your first shell stitch. Skip one chain and in the next chain single crochet then skip one chain and then the next chain do five double crochets. This counts as your first full shell stitch. At the end of this edging row join the first half shell with two double crochets to make one single shell.
Repeat this shell edging on the opposite side. Weave in ends.
