Surprise Shawl

Well, it was a surprise – and now that the surprise is over, I decided I really don’t like this yarn color which is Yarn Bee’s arctic blue. I like the texture of it but just not the color mixture.  It’s kind of like a weird camouflage…  I would like this yarn a lot more if it didn’t have the odd colors speckled throughout…  The shawl is a simple granny pattern and the border is just a double crochet.

First Crocheted Shawl

For this shawl, i of course, used no pattern! 🙂  I started out with just a basic granny stitch that spread out from the center till i thought it was big enough. It measures 54″ at the top (where i did a basic shell stitch) and 29″ down the middle/back of the shawl. I used a merino/linen blend yarn that was really easy to work with.

Homespun shawl

I just finished a shawl for my mom. I used Lion Brand Homespun yarn great plains color which makes a really nice color blend. I crocheted it with a R crochet hook and used a half double stitch through the back loop which makes a really open, springy ribbed stitch.
